themselves to provide quilts for the young populace who have the rare genetic disease FAP/GS. The organization which serves these patients, GARDENVoices, Inc., has been able to disseminate almost 200 quilts to children in chemo, hospice, and home care. In mid-March, 70 quilts were handed out to children on the Oncology and Immunology Ward at St. Christopher’s Hospital in Pennsylvania. In April, a student volunteer brought 10 quilts to the hospital where he himself was undergoing testing. In May, more than 40 students from Carl Sandburg Middle School presented their quilts to children with cancer and leukemia. In the future, children from a Colonia, NJ school will be gifting quilts to children with cancer and AIDS in a New Brunswick hospital. Sewing and gifting a quilt means a lot to these children and their parents. Getting your teens involved in such a project allows them to gain perspective on their own lives and to see that they can make a difference. Deneice Oroszvary, Br.
