Fraternal Benefits The HRFA maintains 73 active lodges with 13,464 benefits members and 1,190 social members. These lodges sponsored 363 fraternal events in 2001 and spent 9,572 hours attending lodge functions. Fraternal benefits provided to HRFA members include Orphan Benefit, Disaster Aid and Newborn Benefit programs. The HRFA and its local branches expended the following amounts in 2001 to support member activities that maintained the local branch as an organizational unit, promoted personal development of members, built fellowship among members or otherwise advanced one of the society’s purposes: Fraternal Support Expenditures Society Home Office: $242,078.00 Local Branches 16.580.00 Total: $258,658.00 Scholarships - The society awarded $15,500 in scholarships to members in 2001. Facilities - The society owns and maintains a nursing home, the Bethlen Home, and retirement cottages, in Ligonier, Pa. Also in Ligonier, the society maintains an assisted living facility, the Ligonier Gardens. The archive collection is housed at the Heritage Center of the American Hungarian Foundation in New Brunswick, N.J. Publications - The society’s quarterly magazine, Fratemity-Testveriseg, is distributed to benefit members. The Bethlen Home publishes the Bethlen Almanac annually. Insurance Operations The Hungarian Reformed Federation of America is licensed as a fraternal benefit society in CA, CT, DC, IL, IN, MI, NJ, NY, OH, PA and WV. The top three states where the society reported the largest amounts of total payments from members in 2001 are New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
