AZ AMERIKAI EGYHAZTESTEKBEN IN OTHER DENOMINATIONS Reports of Presbyterian Congregations with Hungarian Background Calvin United Presbyterian Church of Brownsville, Pennsylvania Calvin United Presbyterian Church continues to serve the Brownsville Community with weekly worship, Sunday School and a variety of special events and projects. We remain an intergenerational congregation of 96 and in the year 2000 we have had 4 baptisms. Our choir and children participate in our worship service frequently, with the youth and children leading the service the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Our Sunday School has about 20 children and our confirmation class this year has 5 members who will be confirmed on Pentecost Sunday, 2001. In addition to weekly Sunday morning services, we also have special services on Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Thanksgiving Eve. We are members of the Brownsville Ministerial Association and often join them for special services. As a member of the Presbytery of Redstone, District III, we also participate in a yearly pulpit exchange and join with the Pleasant View Presbyterian Church in Smock, Pennsylvania for a joint Thanksgiving Eve Service. In addition to the Presbyterian Church Mission programs, One Great Hour of Sharing, the Christmas Joy Offering, the Souper Bowl Offering, we also give food and clothing for 25 of the patients from Mayview State Psychiatric Hospital. Aleda Arnold Menchyk, Stated Supply Minister Hungarian Presbyterian Church of Wharton, New Jersey The Hungarian Presbyterian Church of Wharton, New Jersey was founded in 1904 to minister to immigrants in the Wharton area. Many Hungarians were drawn to work to the region’s iron mines and steel mills. Worship services were conducted in Hungarian. 157
