Bethlen Almanac 2000 (Ligonier)

Kanadai Magyar Református Lelkész-Egyesület

Praise and glory to God for his unending love and grace in our life! Our congregation, the Welland Hungarian Presbyterian Church has been serving the Lord since 1927. We are one of the oldest Hungarian Reformed congregations of Canada. The people in Welland are nice and generous. Many different nationalities live together in peace and harmony. Hungarians are also working together in this city in understanding and in mutual respect for each other, regardless of their religion. The year of the millennium was a great year for this great congregation! The Lord has blessed us with many opportunities to celebrate together. At the beginning of June, 2000, we hosted the first reunion of the Hungarian Reformed people. They came from as far as Montreal to spend a day together. In July, as a part of the Canada Youth 2000 gathering at the Brock University, we hosted the children who were the part of the Mission-track. They spent a day in our midst cleaning, painting, decorating our church. During the Summer we held two picnics. On both days the weather was not cooperating, but we had a wonderful time, regardless of the rain. In September the Millennium Lunch was so great a success that we had to celebrate it at the Hungarian Hall. Our Canada Youth 2000 at the weekend Hungarian Presbyterian minister, being a Church. moderator for the Niagara Presbytery, opened up a great opportunity to get closer to the main church we belong to. In September, as a part of the induction service, we hosted the whole Presbytery for dinner. In October the annual Biblical Storytelling Festival was held at our beautiful sanctuary. In November the Lay-Theological School took place in our church. Mid-week bible-studies and Sunday School are regularly held. The Katalin Bethlen Society and the Men’s Group are our blessed helpers. Without these two organizations it would be impossible to keep up the church financially. May God’s continuous blessings be upon those who are so faithfully dedicated to this church. May God’s blessing surround us for many more years to come that together we might build His kingdom on earth. Rev. Maria Papp, Minister 154
