Bethlen Almanac 1999 (Ligonier)
The Bethlen Home
The Bethlen Home Begins a New Chapter With this New Year, the Bethlen Home of Ligonier has begun a new chapter in its nearly 80 year history of mission and ministry to the elderly. After nearly 25 years of leadership, the Rev. Paul Kovács retired as administrator of the Bethlen Home. As he bid farewell to his many friends, the Bethlen Home community “thanked God for his dedication to the residents of the Bethlen Home, and asked that God bless him in his years of retirement to come.” Mr. Michael E. Walker began his work as the new administrator at the Bethlen Home on September 1, 1999. Mr. Walker comes to Ligonier after serving as administrator with Beverly Healthcare, located in Gettysburg. He was employed with Beverly Enterprises for seven years, holding the positions of social services director, assistant administrator and administrator. Mr. Walker’s appointment to the Bethlen Home marks his return to the area. He and his family are natives of Somerset County, Pennsylvania. It is Mr. Walker’s desire to help the Bethlen Home achieve its twofold mission, to provide quality residential and healthcare to the elderly and to serve as a spiritual and cultural home to our Hungarian Reformed congregations and the American-Hungarian people. Michael E. Walker, left, is the new administrator at the Bethlen Home and the Rev. Imre A. Bertalan has been elected executive director. 36
