which celebrated his active life in the Reformed faith. All were a true testament to his Christian faith, ministry, scholarship and love for his family, congregation and friends. As the congregation worked through the absence of their minister, they turned to Ilona Komjáthy for spiritual guidance and asked her to serve them as pastor. In May, Calvin Synod licensed her, based upon her professional and educational qualifications. The spring brought renewal and new hope as the church celebrated the confirmation of two young people, Jennifer Gamble and Robert Samuel Vargo. We also celebrated a baptism and Holy Communion on Pentecost. It was truly a blessed event. Throughout the year, the steadfast faithfulness of the congregation was especially evident in the highly successful year of the Women’s Guild. In addition to the Women’s Guild’s regular activities, the women also hosted a successful Food Fair in October. All this could not have been achieved without the relentless hard work of our Women’s Guild president Nancy Hoffman, vice president Elsie Vargo, our kitchen manager Virginia Roby, and the members of our guild. It was also an exciting year for the Christian education of young people. The dedication and expertise of our Sunday school teachers Cynthia Toth and Patricia Mclean enabled us to fulfill our Christian education work. Our church also hosted summer Vacation Bible School in conjunction with the local Lutheran church, which proved to be a blessing to our children and the community. At Thanksgiving, for the first time in recent history of our church, we hosted an ecumenical, community service of the Hazelwood churches. It was truly a blessed occasion and the offering was used to help feed the hungry and homeless through the efforts of our community Y.M.C.A. Hungarian worship services faithfully continued due to the ministry of the elders and especially due to our student minister Lőrinc Kovács. Lőrinc is a student at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and is from Transylvania, Romania. We would like to extend our thanks to all those who assisted us through this transitional year. We extend our gratitude to the Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi who proved to be a source of strength and guidance during this past year. 66
