est our young ones as well as studying the Scriptures. We attended the Annual Youth Conference in Allen Park, Michigan in May. Next year it is our turn to host this conference so we were eager to learn as much as possible while enjoying the company of our young brothers and sisters from other Hungarian churches. Besides doing the fun things, like a trip to Riverside Amusement Park, they helped the church parlor’s renovation project. Our two organizations, the Brotherhood and the Women’s Guild, were active throughout the year. The hurka-kolbasz dinner, sponsored by the Brotherhood, was a success - we wish they were in the mood to cook more often! The ladies were getting together to learn to make flower arrangements as well as other things such as teaching one another different skills and spending time in friendly Christian fellowship. The Senior Choir has been faithfully serving our congregation. This year, however, was special for us because our Choir Director, Mr. Joseph Lucskay, celebrated his 50th year leading us in the singing of beautiful anthems. As eager as we were to relocate our church, we had to face some disappointment regarding the property that had been donated to us. At a special congregational meeting, our members voted to abandon the plan of relocation to that particular property. Since at this point we do not have the financial resources to look into buying a lot at a desirable location, we decided to make improvements to our church parlor. Our members’ voluntary work made it a project that is going to be completed very fast. We are happy to see the changes. In the new parlor, we will be able to host dinners for more people as well as to accommodate the Youth Conference next year. Our Consistory asked for the installation of the minister which took place in August with the Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi officiating. The celebration was a heart-warming event with the participation of many ministers and members from the sister Hungarian churches as well as the local clergy. Our Chief Elder, Mr. Frank A. Dudás, as well as the minister, attended official meetings of the Calvin Synod, Eastern Classis, and other programs. Our Annual Harvest Fair in November, the biggest fund-raiser of our church, was a great success. This year more people helped and worked than ever before. The workers’ appreciation dinner was a small way of saying, “Thank You” to the members who by donating their time, work and money helped our congregation to make ends meet. 56
