Bethlen Almanac 1998 (Ligonier)
The Bethlen Home
During the holiday season, many community service groups come to visit our residents for entertainment and hall caroling. They also get involved in the Presents for Patients’ Program. During the past few years, the local Legion adopted several veterans that are now residents of the Home. They come to visit, distribute gifts and socialize with them. The Local VFW has also played a vital part in the life of the Activity Department. On the first Thursday of each month, a group of gentlemen come to the Home to call Bingo and distribute fruit as prizes to the winners, making sure that everyone gets a prize. At Christmas time, they also have a party with the residents and distribute fruit baskets to each resident. Each month, a Pet Therapy session is held for the residents whereby each resident has the opportunity to hold, feed and care for anything from a chicken, pot belly pig to a pony. Seeing how the residents respond to these animals is an award in itself. Each month, the Activity Department schedules several outings. Residents enjoy going to picnics, local restaurants, shopping at the mall, etc. Many enjoy the change of scenery and the opportunity to relax with our staff members and volunteers.
