The Bethlen Home
Some other major expenditures, other than those already mentioned over the past six months include: A new roof for the administrator’s home and for some of the cottages. Replacement of the buffing machine $974, three wheelchairs $ 1,600. A computer and printer for use in the dietary/laundry/housekeeping office, along with four office chairs were purchased. In the Dietary Department, six stainless steel food carts were purchased for $6,122. We continue to advertise our services in the local papers, and just recently through a local radio station. Sherry Humbertson, Pat Armel and Diane recently set up a table at the Latrobe Senior Fair, spending the day handing out information on our facility. The Fraternal Day picnic held on July 20, 1997 was a big success. On that day also, we had a major fire so that the old barn located below the nursing home was completely burned down. Insurance adjusters as well as the Ligonier Township Police investigated the fire. It was found that juveniles were the responsible ones. We had insurance coverage on the bam for $44,189.15 less $1,000 deductible. They calculated the coverage as “Replacement Value” less 50% depreciation. $43,189.15 was received. We currently have a mix case index factor of 1.11 which results in a higher per diem for our medical assistance residents. Due to our high case mix index, we have a daily rate of $104.38 as of 7/1/97. Our resident census is currently 98, with a waiting list of two. Referrals come to us on a daily basis. Retirement Cottages There were two empty cottages. One was recently vacated by the resident who was transferred to the nursing home. New carpet and kitchen linoleum were purchased and a fresh coat of paint added. A new roof was installed on the Chapel and the two apartments attached to it at a cost of $6,400. In addition to the nursing home meetings, we hold a monthly meeting for the cottage residents. Bethlen Apartments The Bethlen Apartments are maintained on a regular basis. In December, the former magistrate office flat roof was replaced with a pitched roof. The cost of the main roof was $7,835. An entrance roof was also installed. Eight new windows were installed in an ongoing attempt to replace the older windows, some of which have rotted. Therefore, each summer we replace six/seven windows until all have been updated. We continue to have weekly staff meetings with the aides and nurses, monthly safety committee, administrative staff meetings, resident council 43
