Dear! This is the house of God.” After thinking for awhile, the little one chimed up, “Mom, aren’t we lucky to live in the same neighborhood with God.?!” The story might make you smile, or laugh. Yet, in a real sense, this is exactly what we are talking about: God is with us. We live in the same neighborhood with Him. The Hungarian Reformed Church of Lorain, Ohio can and did testify to this in 1997, when we joyfully celebrated 95 years of caring, commitment, service and thanks. Thanks to God for His help and blessings and thanks to those, who living in the same neighborhood with Him worked as His hands, feet, eyes, ears that is witnesses in the midst of our community of faith. Thanks to Him, that His favor upon us established the work of our hands in our church. The Gospel was preached in our church 202 times during the year. In 80 English, in 64 Hungarian and in seven combined services we worshipped our Lord and proclaimed His word. We also proclaimed the love our Lord and our mandate to reflect it in eight marriage services, celebrating the commitment of human love. We lifted up the promise and hope of life eternal in 14 funeral services, when we testified to the resurrection of our Lord and of God’s promise to us of this new birth to life eternal, even through death. We also started the meetings of our Consistory and of our organizations with the proclamation of the Word, just as well as our commemorative services of March 15th and October 23rd, we did this at 29 occasions.
