Dr. Vitéz Ferenc, püspök: A Kálvin Egyházkerület
Prior to that he was serving as professor and librarian at academic institutions, and retired from active academic life as Professor Emeritus. Frequent changes in pastoral leadership are not beneficial to congregations. Nevertheless, due to a dedicated and faithful consistory, the spiritual life and activities at this congregation have been maintained. The membership declined considerably (from 94 to 67) during the last four years. Several members passed away, some are in nursing homes, and yet others moved to warmer climate. The religious experience of this congregation is rooted in the Reformed faith, and the membership expects strong emphasis on the faithful proclamation of the Word of God. Our Hungarian heritage continues to be expressed both in the content and format of the two worship services of this bilingual congregation. A Hungarian language service is conducted each Sunday morning as well as a separate English language worship service. Considering the average age and size of the congregation these are well attended. The demography of the membership is advanced in years and pastoral care to the fragile elderly has been one of the essential services which we shall continue to emphasize. Visiting members at nursing homes and inactive families are also among the priorities. Our members continue to be generous with donations all through the year. We are also very grateful to former members and friends who forward donations to us from longdistance, their continued generosity is very much appreciated. All donations received are carefully applied toward the general fund, the maintenance and upkeep of the building complex, and our mission programs. The Ladies Aid and Fellowship Circle organized a well attended (55) retreat in October, 1995. The Annual Fall Bazaar was quite successful with the participation of several former church members. The Fall sausage making project was a wellorganized and successful fund-raising event with the support of dedicated church members and friends. In reviewing the life of the congregation since its founding years some helpful statistics can be reported. The church 232
