Dr. Vitéz Ferenc, püspök: A Kálvin Egyházkerület
The work of the Church would have been quite impossible without the harmonious cooperation and able leadership of our Chief Elder, Mary Carvalho, the Council members and the members and friends of our fellowship. We salute them and pray that the spirit of healing will continue to prevail among us. Dr. Medyesy was honored in February when he was a United Church of Christ delegate to the World Alliance of Reformed Churches in a Jamaican meeting. Also in November the Reformed Theological Academy in Budapest invited him to be a visiting professor for two weeks. He continued his publishing in numerous journals in English and Hungarian. We give thanks to God for the accomplishments of the past. May His harmony-creating Spirit lead us further in this new year. WOODBRIDGE, NJ Pastor: Rev. Albert W. Kovács Hungarian Reformed Church The year 1994 began with one of the most severe winters in recent history, twice weekly snow and ice storms hampering efforts to worship or to meet. The church did receive six new members, two of them by Confirmation. There were two baptisms and three marriages. It lost five members by death. Several of the church’s young people attended the youth conference in Toledo, Ohio and five were at the summer youth camp along with the pastor. The awful weather stifled the Sunday School’s attendance but it went on and older youth gathered Sunday morning for “Discover” an open ended forum for questions and information. Property repairs were high due to storm damage to the roofs, loss of two hot water heaters and heating system improvements. Fire inspectors suddenly appeared after decades of absence and threatened to close the church unless the new fire code requirements were made almost immediately, which required new emergency lighting and other improvements. The annual expenses ran over $58,000 and a special gift of $2500 was awarded the Hungarian Heritage Center in New Brunswick, 182
