ship of sr. high advisors Laura Sobodash and Dr. Chris Mei and jr. high advisors Lorie Russell and Torrie Dunne. Our goal is to increase youth involvement through Christ centered programming, service projects and social activities. In May we attended the annual youth conference sponsored by our mid-western Hungarian Reformed Churches; in August we sent a bus load of young people to summer camp in Pennsylvania. Our many church organizations continue their hard work in service to God and our church. The Ladies Aid, the Dorcas Guild, the Men’s Guild, the Golden Circle and the Martha Circle all raised much needed financial support while providing Christian fellowship and social opportunities for members and guests. Betty Chascsa, Helen Pasternak, Zigmond Faragó, George Kasza and Marge Tarkanyi, respectively, are the presidents of these organizations. The „Busy Bees” Quilting and Craft group meets weekly for fellowship and beautiful handiwork. The Hungarian Heritage Preservation Circle is our newest church organization. Composed of nearly 60 members, the Circle’s goal is to maintain and pass on the language and culture of the Hungarian people. The Circle sponsors educational programs and social events. Elizabeth Miklós is president. Our church hosts the monthly meetings of the Detroit area Szatmar County Association. We sponsor Hungarian language classes, taught by Ilona Kontos, an English language class, taught by Barbara Indre, Hungarian Folk Dance groups, under the leadership of Velma Szabó, and a Hungarian theater group, which began this fall. Our social hall and meeting rooms are used throughout the year for area wide Hungarian programs and celebrations. Our music ministry continues under the direction of Tim Loszewski. We have English and Hungarian voice choirs as well as a handbell choir. A Lenten recital takes place each year on the Sunday before Palm Sunday. Missions continue to be a high priority. We have an active Nursing Home Visitation Ministry and a Good Samaritan Ministry to help those in need. We are involved in refugee resettlement, job placement and the sending of financial support to churches and schools in Hungary, Romania and elsewhere. 169
