200 BETHLEN NAPTÁR We try to maintain our Hungarian heritage too. March 15, 1848, is commemorated by a program and dinner. At Easter we had a Sunrise Service followed by a breakfast. Mother’s Day was celebrated with a program and carnations for the mothers. Father’s Day was celebrated in the same manner — a program and roses for the fathers. When the Christmas season approaches, a group of our devoted church members will continue our long standing tradition of caroling at the homes of our members and friends. Two picnics were held: one featured barbecued chicken, ribs and cabbage rolls, the other barbecued pork steak, Hungarian gulyás and cabbage rolls. The second annual Harvest Dinner was held and featured Chicken Paprikas with homemade dumplings. Sausage making is another project of the Consistory and Ladies Aid. The major part of the work of these activities rests upon the shoulders of the Consistory and the Ladies Aid. The ladies frequently gather to make noodles (csiga). The Consistory meets regularly once a month. The most significant project in 1986 was the remodeling of the kitchen in the church social room. The work was done on a voluntary basis. For this outstanding and precious job we are very thankful to our Chief Elder, Mr. Charles Kusztos, and Mr. Clifford Rautanen, Trustee. In 1986 we hosted all the meetings of the Western Classis. All the churches in the Classis participated in the meetings. A Church Workers’ Conference was held in September with the theme, ”DO YOU KNOW YOUR CHURCH!” which was well attended by all of the churches. The Conference was very enlightening and informative. The guest speakers were: Rev. László Kovács, Purdue University, and Rev. Karl Overbeek, Pastor, Second Reformed Church, Kalamazoo. The Lord has blessed us abundantly during the past year and we pray that He will bless us in the forthcoming years.
