Bethlen Naptár, 1984 (Ligonier)

Kálvin Egyházkerület

1984 85 Four young members of our congregation: Alex Pady, Andrea Papp, Bandi Krajcsovics and Zoltán Király attended the Youth Camp at Laurerville Mennonite Youth Center and gave a colorful summary of their rich experience. For years we did not have any participants — and now it was our joy to have four young members attending the spiritually enriching occasion. The pastor’s son, Zoltán was involved in a summer mission’s program in Costa Rica, in Central America. The church donated prayerful and financial support for this month — long project. Eight of our members visited the Bethlen Home in Ligonier (the pastor drove the church’s van) conveying the best wishes to six of our former churchmembers who live now there, surrounded by loving care in a Christian atmosphere. The Calvin Adult Group had a variety of programs during the year. They are planning to include in their program visiting and inviting similar adult groups for the neighboring churches to exchange views and programs and to enjoy the fellowship with others. The Lorantffy Ladies Aid presented monthly Hungarian Films and served coffee and cake after each occasion. For many years the Calvin Hall — our educational and cultural center had a huge boiler which provided heat for the church, also, through underground pipes. Since we separated the heating system and have a smaller unit only for the church our heating expenditure is much more economical. Our church steeple needs extensive repairs. We intend to raise the necessary funds through our members’ generous donations. Our three appartments are all rented. The maintenance of the buildings is costly, still their income helps us to keep the church in fulfilling our ministry. Through the quarterly published Church Visitor we reach all our members with church news and the list of coming events. We had fefteen funerals but our weddings and baptisms increased, compared to the previous years. The future is in God’s hand. We believe that under His guidance we can fulfill our call to the benefit of our members and of our community and to His glory.
