Alex Kovács: Youth Camp Report

76 BETHLEN NAPTÁR YOUTH CAMP REPORT Our 1983 summer youth camp was a smashing success in so many ways. The vast majority of campers were first timers, between 13-14 years of age. This really gave many of us a pleasant surprise. We can now see at least 4 years into the future of our camp with much enthusiasm and hope'as we look forward to these young people returning with their friends year after year. Secondly, the 'camper counselor’ and counselor in training (C.I.T.) program came to such maturity that the regular staff was actually depending on them to carry much of the responsibility. The counselor training program has rewarded us with a very real sense of accomplishment and maturity. The C.I.T. program has paid off in communicating the truth that we need not leave our confirmands destitute. We need not leave them solely to assert their own will upon a congregation so typical of our consistory meetings. Our youth are learning, on the synodical level, that they can serve the Lord and their church and that there is more to “church work” than Sunday School, worship and bake sales. We thank God for each and everyone who helped make vouth camp such a blessing to so many kids and their families. As great as things were this year, we still missed you very much, Laci. A lex Kovács
