Bethlen Naptár, 1984 (Ligonier)

Kálvin Egyházkerület

1984 127 of Music, provided music for all services on Sunday mornings. They also provided the special music for the Service of Installation and the three services of celebration for the 75th Anniversary. Once, again, very beautiful and meaningful music was part of the Tenebrae Service on Maundy Thursday and the Christmas Eve Service. The Fellowship Committee, beside cooperating with the Anniversary Committee, held a successful Pancake Breakfast and Chili Dinner and the Church Picnic. The committee also sponsored the Annual Bazaar and the Annual Christmas “Hanging of the Greens.” The Stewardship Committee for the second year sponsored “The Pony Express.” The first year was successful in over-subscribing the 1982 budget of $97,000.00. With confidence, the committee has proposed a 1983 budget of $126,072.00. The Ladies’ Aid Society continues to do their excellent job. The Wednesday Ladies’ Work Group during 1982 made 1,927 pounds of noodles, including csiga and other different cuts of noodles. The ladies had four kolbász sales for a total of 7,654 pounds. The ladies purchased a meat-mixing machine that mixes 100 pounds of meat in two minutes. The Ladies’ Aid Society’s total gift to the church in 1982 was $10,500.00. At the 75th Anniversary celebration, the ladies proudly presented a check for $7,500.00. In addition, donations were made to the Church School and they presented a robe and five beautiful colorful stoles to the Pastor upon his installation. The Hungarian congregation continues to worship on the second Sunday of each month under the capable ministry of the Reverend László L. Kovács. The church continues to be used by outside organizations. During the year, training was held for Rap Line — a 24-hour emergency telephone line. A ballroom dance class meets twice a month and the Crisis Center provides counseling services to people in need on a weekly basis. Faith’s number one priority for 1983 is church growth. In 1982, twentynine new members were received and many inactive members were reactivated. Though we did not reach our goal for 1982, it is a good beginning. The second priority is Christian Education. Plans are underway in 1983 to hire a part-time person whose energy and efforts will be in this area, particularly in building us a strong Sunday Church School. The third priority is Leadership Development. Under Dr. Capp’s leadership fifteen persons are meeting three hours a week for twenty weeks being trained in ministry, with the understanding that every member of Faith Church is a minister to every other member. As was stated in the beginning, this has been a very good year and the Pastor and people look forward to 1983 with enthusiasm, optimism and courage.
