66 BETHLEN NAPTÁR 1981 We have purchased new chairs and tables for our dining room and thanks be to God, our people responded to the call for help and we were able to pay for them on delivery. The pastor was officially installed as pastor of the three congregations October 12, 1980. The Bishop of Calvin Synod, The Rt. Reverend Desmond D. Parragh together with the Dean of Central Classis, The Reverend Zoltán Kovács officiated at the installation. The Reverend Miklós Novak preached the installation message. The pastors of the neighboring churches took part in the service and also attended the installation banquet. Our next project was the reorganization of our Sunday School. With God’s help we brought the children back to our church. “...for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me” (Hebrews 13:5b and 6). * * * McKEESPORT, PA. — Pastor: Rev. Dr. Eva M. Fabian Chief Elder: Mr. Richard W. Kyslinger. The new-old song God put into our hearts in 1980 was about His faithfulness. The impact of the present world-wide economic instability can be tremendous on the life of a small congregation. For the First Church 1980 was the year of struggle for survival. However, though serious financial problems clouded our skies, the balance of the year is positive. We joyfully and gratefully experienced that God was ever so faithful to His promises, to His work among us, and to us, His people, since He is always faithful to His own character. Our worship services were enriched partly by the singing of a seasonal choir under the enthusiastic and learned leadership of our Organist and Choir Director, Mrs. Barbara Ruhe, and partly by the special participation of some of our members. During the Advent season, e.g. with the central themes of Hope, Peace, Love and Joy fourfour members led us in short devotion at the beginning of each service. Mr. John Bertok, Jr., Mr. Richard Gergely, Mrs. Yolanda Kardos, Mrs. Candy Ernst, and Mrs. Charlene Gergely substituted the Pastor during her vacation. We had Holy Communion seven times; participated at the ecumenical worship service during the week of prayer for Christian unity; continued weekly Bible study and monthly meetings with the young adult people of our Church. The life of the Sunday School was very active. Classes were held mostly on Saturdays with the blessed services of Mrs. Candy Ernst and Mrs. Charlene Gergely. Our children had a lovely Christmas play, a cheerful Christmas Party, and a successful Vacation Bible School. We are also very grateful for the help of Mrs. Pat Detweiler who served the Children’s Department as secretary. Two children and three adults were confirmed; two boys went to youth camp, Douglas Lorenchick at the expense of our Church as a reward for excellency at confirmation.
