1981 BETHLEN NAPTÁR 193 Nagytiszteletű Várkonyi Miklós, a mai amerikai magyar református papság egyik veteránja, életének 91. évében, hosszas gyengélkedés után, csendesen elhunyt. Temetése február 6-án volt Hollywoodon, Floridában. Az ottani Memorial Garden Cemeteryben helyezték örök nyugalomra, tizenegy évvel ezelőtt elhunyt élettársa, született néhai Soós Piroska mellé. 1890. december 9-én született Tokajon, Zemplén megyében. Közvetlen a századforduló előtt jött Amerikába szüleivel, akik Bridgeport, Conn.-ban telepednek le. Ott végezte elemi- és középiskoláit, és élete végéig ezt a várost tartotta szülőföldjének. Maradandó rokoni, baráti szálak is ide kötötték, ahová mindig szívesen visszajárt élete során. Lelkészi pályafutását a bloomfieldi lelkésznevelő-intézetben kezdi New Jerseyben. Szabad idejében szívesen szolgál Nt. Ludman Sándor mellett Bridgeporton, a család gyülekezetében. Fogadalmát hűségesen megtartotta. Szolgált Martins Ferryben, Flinten, Johnstownban, McKeesporton, Beaver Fallson, ahol templomot is épített. Élete végén lekerült Floridába. Egy ideig Miamiban szolgált és onnan ment nyugdíjba Hollywood, Floridába, ahol hosszas gyengélkedés után hazament Teremtőjéhez. Csendes, szelíd ember volt, csendesen élt közöttünk. Vigasztalása gyermekei gondozó szeretete volt. Temetése 1980. február 4-én volt, az igét Nitsch Gábor hirdette, szolgáltak még Csutoros István, Ferenczy Pál, Dr. Újlaki Ferenc lelkipásztorok. A neki adott talentum szerint hűséggel szolgált. Legyen emléke áldott. Nagy Lajos On Friday, April 18th, Sarah Kalassay—sister of Karl Kalassay, Vilma Molnár, Margaret Kalman, Ethel Heufeld, Dr. Louis Alexander Kalassay and Elizabeth Vasvary and over 100 nieces and nephews, died at the Fairfax Hospital in Virginia. Sarah was the daughter of the Rev. Dr. Alexander Kalassay, a Hungarian Reformed minister who came as a missionary to the Hungarian Reformed community in the United States at the turn of the century. She was born on July 25, 1902 in Bridgeport, Conn. Dr. Kalassay was the founder of many Hungarian Reformed congregations in this country. He was pastor of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Pittsburgh when, in 1920, a single tragic coal mine explosion took the lives of fifty persons of the congregations located in the greater Pittsburgh area. Moved by the depth of the tragedy, Dr. Kalassay left his church to found the Bethlen Home in Ligonier, Pa. The care for the children of bereaved families started in 1921 and for the aged in 1927.
