Deborah Mondon: "Something to do, Something to love, Something to hope for”
1980 213 “SOMETHING TO DO, SOMETHING TO LOVE, SOMETHING TO HOPE FOR” Residents of the Bethlen Home have spent many happy and busy hours participating in the programs offered by the Occupational Therapy Department of the Home. We have a large, sunny Activity Room with a beautiful view of Ligonier Valley and the surrounding mountains. Thanks to many generous and concerned people, the program is well equipped to bring pleasure and entertainment to our residents. We have a Stereo/Tape Deck system, a 16MM Projector, and a large movie screen on which to show movies. We borrow the movies from the library, and show them weekly. On movie day, (Tuesday) several residents help with the preparation and serving of refreshments. (Everyone knows you have to have pop-corn when you go to the movies!) We have other regularly scheduled events as well. Monday afternoon, a group meets to read and write poetry or to discuss current events and other topics. Wednesday afternoon, we have Bingo and this activity is ALWAYS well attended. The local Veterans of Foreign Wars Chapter comes to visit once a month and holds an evening Bingo game. The residents look forward to winning prizes such as fruit, cigarettes and jewelry. Many of the folks of the Bethlen Home stay busy reading, writing letters and visiting with friends in the Home. The Bethlen Bowlers, go downtown on Thursday afternoons to Ligonier Lanes and enjoy 2 hours of competition as they try to improve their scores. The ride home is full of chatter: “I made 6 strikes today!” . . . “I’ve improved a lot this week, haven’t I?”
