Bethlen Almanac

130 BETHLEN ALMANAC Elder Bela Nagy Greets Jubilee Assemblage. yar Synod expressed the sentiments of many who respect Rev. George for his tireless devotion and loyal leadership both in the congregation and in the Synod. Rev. George served as Vice President of the Synod until July 1959, since then he has been the Treasurer. He is also well-known in the community of Chicago for his outstanding altruistic efforts. Last year the members of the Ladies Aid Society made a trip to Ligonier, Penna, and there Mrs. William Nagy, President of the Society presented $500.00 to the Superintendent of the Bethlen Home for the furnishing of a room in the proposed new building. Thus the Ladies Aid of this congregation was the first church organization to make such a contribution for the new enterprise. On November 8, 1958, the congregation celebrated the 45th anniversary of its existence. This celebration also marked the burning of the mortgage papers: five years ago the church took a mortgage of $40,000 in order to finance the building of the Calvin Hall, and five years was enough to alleviate this burden ... The dart ball team of the congregation won first prize in the South Side League of Chicago during the season of 1958-59. CHICAGO, 111. West Side — Pastor: Rev. Desmund Parragh The pastor who is the President of the Western Classis reported to the Synodical meeting that the Chicago West Side church purchased a new lot for future relocation last year. The first step of this relocation program is to build a new parsonage. Steps were taken to materialize this first phase of the program as blue-prints were prepared for the new pasonage. Since then the building itself has been started. It is remarkable that while the congregation is engaged in such a costly undertaking they still pay apportionment, Church World Service, and other benevolent obligations with the same generosity as they did previously.
