Bethlen Naptár, 1957 (Ligonier)

Officers and supreme council members of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America 1957-1961

216 BETHLEN NAPTÁR REV. ALEXANDER DAROCZY was born in Püspökladány, Hajdú County, Hungary. He received his education in the Gymnasium and Theological Seminary of Debrecen, the University of Princeton, where he received his Master of Theology degree, and in the University of Pittsburgh. He was ordained in 1924. He is affiliated with the Free Magyar Reformed Church in which denomination he founded the New York (11th. St.) Church, served the McKeesport conregation, and for the last 21 years has been the pastor of the Carteret, N.J. conregation. Under his pastorate in Carteret a fine modern education and recreation building was erected. Rev. Daroczy came to this country 34 years ago, returning on three occasions to visit his homeland. His heart and mind decided that American Hungarian Calvinists needed him more than did the people of Hungary. He returned to stay in the United States where he gave his best to his people. Throughout his ministry he has aimed sincerely and intensely toward two goals: first, that his people remain staunch Calvinists, and second, that all Magyar Reformed people throughout the United States unite in one Christian fellowship. For years Rev. Daroczy has taken an active interest in the Federation as well as in the Bethlen Home. He served two terms on the Supreme Council and the Board of Managers of the Home. Pastor, scholar, leader, writer, teacher, a faithful servant of the Hungarian Reformed people, Rev. Daroczy was honored by his denomination when he was elected Arch Dean of the Free Magyar Reformed Church in the year 1939, serving until 1945. He held the office of president of the Hungarian National Ministerial Association, and was recently made its historian. Further recognition was accorded him when the 1956 Convention, held in June, elected him first vice president of the Hungarian Reformed Federation; and when in September, 1956, the Board of Directors of the Bethlen Home chose him new superintendent of the Bethlen Home, to succeed Rev. Joseph Kecskemethy. Rev. Daroczy automatically relinquishes his position as vice president of the Federation upon assuming his duties as superintendent. Rev. and Mrs. (Irene Olchvary) Daroczy have two children: a son, the Rev. Charles Daroczy, pastor of the Bronx Presbyterian Church; and a daughter, Irene, wife of Dr. Louis Hutton, pastor of the Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church of Washington, D.C. The Daroczys have four grandchildren. May God bless this able couple richly and give them and the dependents under their care many happy and fruitful years together. REV. ZOLTÁN BÉKY, Arch Dean of the Free Magyar Reformed Church in America, has been in the ministry for the past 28 years. He has served the Free Magyar Reformed Church of Trenton, N.J. for 27 years. Under his pastorate, the church and parsonage were remodeled, and a new education and recreation center was erected. Alexander Daroczy, I. Vice-President, Ligonier, Pa.
