Bethlen Naptár, 1957 (Ligonier)
Officers and supreme council members of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America 1957-1961
BETHLEN NAPTÁR 213 EMERY KIRÁLY, born in Szörcse, Transylvania, became a teacher by profession in the Old Country. He taught for the longest period of time in the Nyíregyháza, Szabolcs County, schools. At the outbreak of World War I he became an officer in the Austro-Hungarian Army from which he was honorably discharged upon the termination of the War. In 1921 he and his family emigrated to this country, where Mr. Király became Director of Religious and Hungarian Education in the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Cleveland. He also served for a period of time in this capacity at the West Side Church. As a strong Calvinist and as an outstanding church and civic leader, Mr. Király engraved his name into the life of the First Church, where under his leadership and efforts, in the years of the deepest economic depression, the congregation built the famous Bethlen Hall with its modern, well-planned educational facilities. Soon after he arrived to this country Mr. Király became interested in the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America as well as in the Bethlen Home. The reward for his active interest in these institutions was his election as treasurer of the Federation at the Convention of 1935. Through this office he became controller of the Board of Managers of the Bethlen Home. Mr. Király has held these posts ever since. The recent Convention of 1956 re-elected him treasurer by acclamation. Emery Király, Treasurer His ability, leadership, and personality, have always brought Mr. Király into the public eye and thus he was summoned for more and more public service. He held the office of treasurer for both the American-Hungarian Relief, Inc., and the American-Hungarian Federation for many years. He is now serving his second term as president of the National Presbyters Association. Mr. and Mrs. Király have three children: Emery, Jr., in the service of the U.S. Government; Yolanda, Whose husband, Robert Farkas, is an officer in the U.S. Air Corps; and Katherine, wife of Albert Fiok, Attorney of our Federation. The Kiralys have eight grandchildren. May God grant that the outstanding services of our richly-endowed “Grand old man” continue to be a benefit to our Federation for many years to come!
