Bethlen Naptár, 1956 (Ligonier)

Superintendent's report on the Bethlen Home

166 BETHLEN NAPTÁR linked closer together. Through personal visits and observations our guests realize that our cause is one that is worthy of their support and goodwill. HUNGARIAN SUMMER SCHOOL Though requiring much physical and mental strain, our summer school sessions, during the past two years, proved most valuable and happy experiences. In addition to promoting goodwill, they nurtured the faith of our children as well as love for their country, and stimulated their interest in the land of their extraction. During the summer of 1954, there was an enrollment of 28 above our permanent enrollment, and a total enrollment of «0 in 1955. The value in these sessions lay in the fact that we were able to serve the second and third generations of our Hungarian Reformed Churches as well as our new Americans. Our course of study included religion, Hungarian reading, writing, history, and geography; crafts, drawing, and music. Helping the Superintendent and his wife was the following group of qualified and loyal instructors: Rev. and Mrs. László Harangi, Rev. Áron Elek, Rev. Francis Vitéz, Rev. Eugene Galántai, Miss Dorothy Gill, and Deaconess Marietta Csighy. FIRST REUNION The promotion of the first reunion of our former residents was our third way of spreading goodwill and interest in our institution. The first reunion was held from July 2 to 5, 1955. This was a heart-warming way of initiating our 35th Anniversary Year. These former residents, many of them now parents and grandparents, spent a memorable three days at Ligonier, talking over “old times”, visiting their former homes, and showing their children where they had lived for longer or shorter periods of time. It was a pleasure and a privilege to receive 42 former residents, numbering with their families 76 in all. Their enthusiasm and gratitude prompted their organizing the “Bethlen Home Association” for the purpose of helping their former home. First Reunion of former residents of the Bethlen Home in 1955, now, members of the “Bethlen Home Association”.
