National Youth Conference of the Magyar Synod

NATIONAL YOUTH CONFERENCE OF THE MAGYAR SYNOD While the great World Council of Churches meeting was going on in Evanston, 18 miles away at Elmhurst College 125 delegates of the Youth Fellowship of the Magyar Synod met from August 14-18. These 125 young people from Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Illinois worshiped with 130,000 other Christians in the great Festival of Faith at Soldiers Field on the night of August 15. In their own conference, whose theme was “So Send I You”, the youth delegates heard such outstanding speakers as Dr. James E. Wagner, President of the Evangelical and Reformed Church; Mr. Ed Crill, director of youth work for the Brethren Church; Dr. Elmer Homrighausen of Princeton Seminary and Chaplin E. R. Weidler of Great Lakes Naval Hospital. The meeting on the beautiful campus of Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois, included numerous workshops in Bible study, vocations, youth program planning, Christian heritage, recreation and planning worship services. The three commission plan of organization and the work of the commissions in the Youth Fellowship was discussed and analyzed in three workshops on Christian Faith, Christian Action, and Christian Fellowship. Many of the workshops actually took an active part in the leadership of the conference by conducting the recreation or leading worship services.
