Life in our Bethlen Home

BETHLEN NAPTÁR 231 OUR OLD FOLKS From 1948 to 1952 we cared for 60 old people: 31 men and 29 women; 45 of the Reformed Church, 1 of the Lutheran Church, 12 of the Roman Catholic Church and 1 each of the Greek Catholic and Baptist Churches. 24 of these people were members of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, 22 were members of other fraternal organizations, 14 maintained membership in smaller lodges, had insurance benefits from former places of employment, or had no funds whatsoever. Among the old guests, 2 were displaced persons. 15 of our old folks died in the past four years: 11 men and 4 women; 6 old people left of their own free will and 2 were placed in state institutions, so that on December 31, 1951, 37 old folks remained at the Bethlen Home: 19 men and 18 women; 29 of the Reformed faith, 7 Roman Catholics and 1 Greek Catholic. As for our old folks, it has been our desire to give them a clean and comfortable home, as well as physical and spiritual nourishment which will bring them peace and contentment in their old age. Both old and young are given well-balanced meals: breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack and dinner. Since the greater part of our food comes from the Bethlen Home farm, our children and old folks are assured of fresh food always.
