Church digest for our second and third generations

200 BETHLEN NAPTÁR which left the original church organized a new congregation. Unity and a oneness in spirit would serve the Kingdom to better advantage. The pastor of the original church is the Rev. Benja­min Jozsa, while the minister in the new congregation is the Rev. Kalman Csia of Hungary. WHITING, IND. Located on the borderline between Indiana and Illinois, this congregation serves the Hungarian Reformed people working in the local oil refineries. Up to recent years, the congregation was always served by neighboring pastors. A full-time pastor, the Rev. Joseph Malasics, was installed five years ago. He injected new spirit into the little congregation, which has a fine church and parsonage. HUNGARIAN CONGREGATIONS OF THE EVANGELICAL & REFORMED CHURCH in AMERICAN SYNODS AKRON, OHIO had a single congregation for many year, until through dissension, another church was organized. This original congregation is served by the Rev. Arpad Bakay, who has been pastor here at three different intervals. The congrega­tion celebrated its 35th anniversary in 1949, for which occasion the church and parsonage were remodeled. ELYRIA, OHIO. This congregation lives its Christian life under very desirable circumstances with leadership in the hands of the energetic and diligent pastor, the Rev. Louis Novak, who was honored two years ago by his congregation on the event of his 10th year in Elyria. Youth work, mission-groups for women and girls, two choirs and a men’s brotherhood are included in the well-balanced church program. This congregation is one of the best supporters of the Bethlen Home, having contributed $740.00 last year. LORAIN, OHIO is one of the largest Evangelical and Re­formed congregations in Ohio. During the past year the people completely rebuilt their old church, which project cost $100,000.00. A few years ago the congregation erected a large recreation building, which is one of the finest of its kind. The minister in charge is the Rev. Daniel Bodor, who has served this con­gregation for the last 15 years. The Ladies Aid Society contri­buted $450.00 to furnish a room in the new Old People’s Home. McKEESPORT, PA. (First Church) is one of our old con­gregations which had undergone many trials and hardship in the past and which also experienced a split, resulting in the organization of an independent group.
