Louis W. Goebel: A tribute to Bethlen Home

240 BETHLEN NAPTAR convenience and comfort. The splendid schools of this town afford an opportunity for a thorough education. Ligonier itself is surrounded by hills and in the distance one sees the mountains. On one of these hills the home for the aged is located. As one sits on a bench under one of the many trees surrounding the home, one’s eye rests upon a most enchanting view. Not far from the home is a spacious chapel. Here services are regularly conducted and it is here where for a number of years the meetings of the Magyar Synod have been held. The beautiful chapel affords a very attractive meeting place for this assembly. During the intermission fellowship is enjoyed in the shade of the trees. Surrounding this complex of buildings is a large farm profitably operated by the management of the institution. Here produce is raised for the table, including a large portion of the necessary supply of meat. A herd of Guernsey cattle provides the milk. It was our privilege at the last meeting of the Magyar Synod to inspect this whole property and to discover that some of the revenue for the maintenance of the institution is derived from the mining of coal. This institution is truly a monument to the benevolent spirit of Hungarian Reformed Christians. Not only they, but the Evangelical and Reformed Church, in which a large portion of the constituency of the Federation holds membership, can duly be proud of the service which is rendered here. The writer joins the happy members of the Bethlen Home family in thanking God for the love and compassion which has made these homes possible. From the Home for the Children we are sure many young people will go forth to take their place with honor in the life of the Church and the nation. The evening of the lives of hundreds of old people have been filled with the light of love as they set their faces toward their eternal home. May God continue to bless this institution and those who labor and pray to make it truly a home for those who are under its care.
