Paál Gyula: A lelkipásztor és a gyülekezet

92. OLDAL BETHLEN NAPTAR AZ 1945-IK ESZTENDŐRE sétek be Krisztus törvényét. ..” Isten kegyelme veletek. * * * HOMESTEAD CHURCH TRAINS YOUNG PEOPLE Teacher: Rev. Julius Paal “Teaching is so much a matter of the play of mind upon mind, of influence of personality upon personality, of the effect of character upon character that regardless of what knowledge the teacher may possess, the most far-reaching results of his teaching are determined by what he is." This emphasis upon what the teacher is and upon his continued growth does not mean that he does not need knowledge or skill. The teacher must know not only how to teach but what to teach. That he does not know, he must known where to find. Sure knowledge gives confidence. If knowledge is related to life, it gives competence. If it held with modesty, it begets respect. Thus, we can say that the purpose is knowledge, competence and confidence. “We preach Christ crucified.” How often the church has forgotten the eternal urgency of the “cross.”How often preaching became sermonizing on “religio-moral subjects.” Accomodating its functions to secular culture the Church became man-centered and naturally it bred a halfbaked humanistic Christian education. Christ became one of the greatest teachers of mankind. Christian education became a “lame-arm” of the Church without any evangelistic zeal. A CHRISTCENTERED CHURCH WILL PREACH CHRIST THE CRUCIFIED AND ITS STRONG ARM: CHRISTIAN EDUCATION WILL TEACH CHRIST CRUCIFIED. Jesus of Nazareth may beg and reason for understanding “his views”, but CHRIST CRUCIFIED. THE SAVIOUR of the WORLD will command loyalty from his followers because he paid the highest price for us with his life. * * * CHRISTIAN EDUCATION WILL BECOME “MODERN” BY STAYING “ETERNAL” Christ never changes; times and men’s minds will always change, but the needs and longings of human souls are immemorial.
