Eric A. Boerner: Forces Of Far Greater Power

BETHLEN NAPTÁR AZ 1945-IK ESZTENDŐRE 135. OLDAL Forces Of Far Greater Power By Eric A. Boerner Present condition of the whole wide world is truly sorrowfull, though why it should be so is by no means clear, for the scientific knowledge and technical skill of the Western Nations have given them such effective controll over material conditions as to enable them to do practically everthing that is necessary for their physical comfort and security, yet we are now confronted with a condition of world anarchy. — The Indian poet, Rabindranat Tagore, writes as follows: “The nationalism of the Western Civilization is not based on truly social Co-operation, but upon the spirit of war and conquest. It has developed a power system to the fullest extent, but it lacks spiritual idealism. It spirit is that of a beast of prey intent upon its booty.” The present order of civilization is doomed, unless the people of the Earth can be brought to see that the human qualities necessary to construct and operate an effective new social order are not possessed be any one nation, but are shared out among the different people of the world. The real task of this age is to find out how to bring representative groups of the different people together in an attempt to solve collectively the human and social problems of today, that none of them can solve alone. This is one way. Another would be for the clever but egoistic people of the West to make a truly effort to acquire some of the spiritual qualities of the East or Asia. If the people of the West could but add the Eastern instinct for Christ gave His Life for Faith. It was the first Supreme Sacrifice. To-day, the lives of millions of soldier, all Nations, all Faiths, depends on Faith Hope and Love and Life, Soul and Spirit. To-day, I see young and old men who are cynical... who are pessimistic... who are despair... or some faintly curl their lips and say. . . ‘‘It’s the same old story it’s always been — and the same old way it’ll always be”, but I have Faith, Hope and Love, and here are the reasons: hard, practical and factual reasons.
