BÉRMUNKÁS 7 oldal Megjegyzés a 10dolláros munkanélküli segélyhez Junior Colur & “THE RISE OF SOCIA' “THE QUESTION OF THE OWNERSHIP OF INDUSTRY:” The socialists maintained that “the means of production” should belong to society and should not be held as the private property of individuals. “The means of production” is a very vague phrase and might include farms and gardens as well as tools, but when a socialist uses it he generaly thinks of the machine and the factories as well as the railroads and steamships which carry the- goods. The main idea of the socialists is that the great industries which have arisen should not be left in private hands. They claim that it is not right for the capitalists to own the mills upon which the workingman must depend. The attempts of labor unions to get higher wages does not offer more than a temporary relief, since the system is wrong which permits the wealthy to have such a control over the poor. The person who works for wages is not free, but is a “wage slave” of his employer. The way to remedy this is to turn over the great industries, now owned by capitalists, to the government of the nation, state, or city so that everyone has a share in the profits. “THE EARLY SOCIALISTS.” The first socialists relied on the kind hearts of the capitalists to bring the change. They dreamed of a future civilization which would be without the poverty, idleness, or ugliness. Of the early socialists, the most attractive figure was Robert Owen, a rich British mill owner, who had much influence in England. To him is probably due the word “Socialism.” “THE MODERN SOCIALISTS.” The modem socialists regard these early socialists as dreamers and their methods as impracticable. They do not think that the rich will ever, voluntarily, give up their control over the great industries, so they turn to the working people only, point out the great odvantage to them of socialism, and call upon them to bring it about in the face of the opposition of the capitalists. They claim that the opportunity and that labor is justified in what it produces. “A TEACHER OF S O C I A L I S M.” A great teacher of this modern doctrine of socialism was Karl Marx. He was a learned man. He had early decided upon the career of a university professor, but the boldness of his speech and his radical tendencies barred his way and so later he entered journalism. He was trained in phylosophy and political economy and he came to the conclusion from a study of history, that just as the middle class or capitalists had replaced feudal nobles, so the working class would replace the capitalists in the futurg. By the working class he meant those depend upon their work for a living. The introduction of the factory system had reduced the vast majority of artisans to a position in which the capitalists was able to dictate the conditions upon which this work must be done. Marx in an appeal to them, called upon the members of this “proletariat” who have nothing to lose but their chains, to rise and seize the means of production themselves. His appeal had almost no effect at the time, but it has been an inspiration to later generations of socialists, and is frequently quoted by them. Modern or “Marxian” socialism is therefore a movement of the working class. There is one other important element in socialism, and that is international. It regards the cause of workers in different countries as a common cause against a common op- perssor the capitalists. In this way socialism was a force for peace between nations until the war in 1914. Card No. 2844 (Cleveland.) Besides the play there will be recitations, songs* and musical numbers by the various Juniors. After _ the entertainment, there will be dancing to the music of excellent orchestra. Erre megadja a feleletet az a tény, hogy például az én férjem sok más bányásszal együtt 8 és tiz dollárokat pedázik hetenként. Igaz, hogy csak két napokat dolgoznak hetenként, de józan ésszel lehet-e elgondolni, hogy munkások leszálljanak a bánya mélyébe, kitegyék magukat a rájuk leselkedő halálnak akkor, amikor anélkül is vagyis minden munka nélkül tiz dollárokat kapnának. Szomorú a dologban, hogy ezt az akciót éppen azok a kommunisták siettetik, akiknek az lenne az érdekük, hogy a nép elégedetlen, lázongó legyen. Vagy gondolja-e valaki, hogy a segély listán levő népnek szabad gerincesnek lenni? Nem, igen tisztelt kommunista elvtársak. Ha segélyt kapna a munkás az államtól, feléje sem nézne a munka alkalomnak, de nem csak a munkát kerülné el jó messzire, de magát a szebb jövőt építő mozgalmaknak sem lenne a tagja, mert hiszen csak annyi esze neki is van, hogy nem igyekszik megszüntetni azt a rendszert, amely neki minden héten tiz dollárt kiutal, hogy azután a munkás rendszerben neki is dolgoznia kelljen. Számtalan esetben marsolt már a nép, könyörögve az uraknak egy falat elamizsná- ért. Nem egyedül álló az az eset sem, amikor a marsolókat a halált osztó puska golyó várta. Washington mai urai tanultak a múltból. Már nem erőszakkal felelnek a nép megmozdulásának. Igazi politikusok, akik mindenkivel éreznek. the-know,” ya can’t afford to miss this affair. Hát oda kerül, ahová a még nem is olyan régen kért heti 25 dolláros segély került. Amig a kommunisták segélyért szólítják harcba a munkásokat addig nem sürgős az államnak a népről való gondoskodás. Hiszen látjuk több európai országban maguk a kapitalisták csináltatták meg a segélyezési törvényeket, amely- lyel elvágtak minden kapcsolatot a nép és a radikális munkás mozgalom között. Meg fogja azt adni Amerika tőkés osztálya is, ha ezzel kell a munkás népet a forradalom útjáról levezetni. Vájjon számoltak-e a tiz dollárt követelők azzal, hogy ha ezt az összeget meg is szavaznák és kiutalásra is kerülne, hogy azokat nem a Morga- nok, nem a Rockefellerek fogják az állam részére kiizzadni, hanem azok a munkások, akik ma termelnek ki mindent a rendszer fentartásához ? Szerintem a tiz dolláros segély nem helyes megoldás, még- kevésbbé forradalmi cselekvés. A helyes megoldás a munkás osztály részére a szervezkedés abban a formában, ahogyan azt az IWW tanítja. Az itt ösz- szegyüjtött erő alkalmas arra, hogy minden munkás a munkára kerüljön, hogy minden dolgozó az élet szükésges javaihoz jusson és elsősorban a szervezkedés ad csak lehetőséget a bérrendszer eltörléséhez, az ipari demokrácia megteremtéséhez.
