‘The political! is not my shepherd’

The Politician is not my shepherd,

He turneth me over to the wolves,

He shall not make me to lie down in the slums Taking it on the; chin,

Keeping my mouth shut,

Waiting for prosperity to come “around the corner.”

Too much bull is weariness of the flesh,

Yea, I am fed up on it

On the “New freedom and on “Normalcy,”

On the “Glorious Period” of the “Good Calvin,”

On “Rugged Individualism,” and on “Misery Relief;”

“Saving the Socialist Fatherland” puts no Fried chicken under my belt. ,

The “New Deal” from the old deck gets us no good.

Turning pigs into fertilizer puts no porkchops on our tables. “Plowing under” cotton, no glad rags on our backs.

Paying landlords to keep workers from producing wheat and corn, sugar and coffee, fruit and everything.

And,

Taking all this undestroyed;

And,

Flooding the world with imaginary money,

May “Save the price structure”

But,

It is Hell on thee and thine, on me and mine.

And, me and mine, us and ours.

That’s what’s troubling me, oh, Fellow Workers!

And that’s more than enough.

Yea, verily, I am burned out and turned sour with weary waiting for the Millenium —

2000 years this Christmas!

It is too long between drinks!

Besides,

Hooching oneself into freedom, peace and plenty ain’t so hot. The night before is all right, but. . .

The morning after!

Well! Fellow Workers, you aught to know how that was, is and every will be.

There is nothing to it As the Bible say.s,

“All politicians are liars.”

Therefore, if ye would be “saved,”

Save yourselves.

And lastly hear this:

The only hope of “The Damned” is,

“The Damned IWW.”

It is the One Big Union or

One wholsale stravation for us us and ours,

YESTERDAY’S OUTLOOK

— TODAY’S PROBLEMS.

The trouble seems to be that most people, workers and others, view the world about them not through their own eyes, but through the eyes of their remote ancestors. An ox-cart lumbering through the street canyons of a modern city would be considered an incongruous sight. Yet every day one encounters ideas and concepts in the brains of human beings which belong to the horse—and—buggy stage, the ox-cart stage, or even the stone-ax stage of human development. Most of the time such ideas and concepts occasion no comment whatever; they are considered the most natural things in the world. And the man on the street is not the only guilty one; editorial office and legislative halls are full of little else.

Rugged individualism, private initiative, craft unionism, and even political government itself — these are examples of things once useful and necessary which have since become anachronisms in modern industrialized society. But in the minds of men and women whose thought processes are mere hangovers from a bygone age they are considered az up- to-date as ever. Many of these persons of atavistic mentality are firmly convinced that, by wishing for the continuation of these outgrown ideas, concepts, and institutions, they can be andowed with immortal life. Unfortunately for their fond desires technology — the onward march of the machine process — has decreed otherwise. A chick was never known to go back into the egg from wich he was hatched.

In opposition to the wish fulfilment which seeks to sustain and prolong the established order, there are other types of wish fulfilment which seek its modification. Socialism and Communism, while making revolutionary pretentions, still adhere stubbornly to the basic principle of price. In Soviet

Russia the price system is perhaps more firmly implanted than any other country on earth. Socialism or Communism in America would mean the continuation, in one from or another, of the price system. That is one reason why neither system will “wark” on this continental area.

All the wish fulfilment in the world will not make it possible for the price system to continue. All the wish fulfilment in the world will not enable its successor to produce and distribute socially necessary goods under any system that does not conform functionally to the structure of, modern industry. This means that the price system, money, and the entire concept of money values must be abandoned needs of scientific production and distribution.

Now that the holidays are over I hope that the readers of this column will make a special effort to contribute articles of common interest for the mutual enjoyment of JWC followers.

Mindazok a Szövetségi tarok, akik munkanélküliségük folytán kölcsönt fel venni vannak kényszerülve, hogy tagsági .lletékeiket fentartani tudják, azok január hó 1-től az előbb meghatározott összegek dupláját vehetik igénybe.

Erre kapott meghatalmazást az Intéző-Bizottság a Szövetség vagyonát és könyveit felülvizsgáló állami biztosoktól.

Ennek a meghatalmazásnak legfontosabb része az, hogy a Munkás Betegsegélyző Szövetséget biztos alapokon nyugvóSztrájk követte a bérlevágást

paraziták lakájai. 12 óra 40 perckor egy csapat rendőr jelent meg a picket vonal előtt és kijelentették, hogy a 61-es pier előtt nem marsolhatnak el. A picketek azonban figyelmen kívül hagyva a rendőrség kívánságát, tovább folytatták útjukat, mire az egyik rendőr megtámadott egy picketet. Erre természetesen a picketek társuk segítségére siettek, a rendőrök szintén és általános tolakodás támadt, melyben a rendőrt alaposan helyben hagyták és valami módon a botjától is megfosztották. Ezután a tömeg szét oszlott és éppen időben, mert pár perc múlva a környéken levő összes squad károk a helyszínen voltak. Hármat az ott áldogálók közül letartóztattak. Később kettőt szabadon engedtek, a harmadikat pedig előre megfontolt támadás vádja alapján fogva tartották.

Az American Farmer hajó szintén sztrájktörő kezelőkkel indult útnak, a sztrájk azonban tovább folyik^ A munkások készülnek a sztrájk kiterjesztésére.

Ezen bérlevágás ugyan abban az időben jön. amikor az NRA a hajózási kódon tárgyal és itt is látható, hogy mit jelent az NRA a munkásoknak. Az eddig kilátásba helyezett bér a kód által, átlag havi 40 dollár. A jelenlegi bérek átlaga pedig havi 45 dollár.

Munkások! Kishitűség részetekről elvárni, hogy a kapitalisták saját kormánya fogja a munkások munkaviszonyait és a béreket megjavítani. Még a történelem nem mutat példát, hogy többet adtak volna, mint amennyit harccal kitudtunk csikarni- Mi nem akarjuk az NRA által megállapított havi 40 dollárt. Mi a havi 45-el sem vagyunk megelégedve.

Mi mindenki részére munkát akarunk biztosítani és elég magas bért, hogy emberekhez méltóan élhessünk. Ezt azonban csak akkor érhetjük el, ha valamennyien megértjük, azt, hogy “egynek a sérelme, valamennyiünk sérelme.”

Ezt ismerik fel a munkások is nagyobb és nagyobb számban, mert az anyagi helyzetük javulásával az első teendőiknek tartják a Szövetség tagjává lenni.

Közel kétszáz szervezője van a Szövetségnek és ha csak EGY tagot szerez minden szervező egy hónapban, a régi taglétszámot fogja a Szövetség elérni.
