N — stands for Nations that war because of greed. I — is the Industries and the mouths they have to feed. O — is the “Outrageous way” in which the workers are treated. R — is their Ruggedness — they will not be defeated. W — is the Working class — long may their banner wave. 0 — is the “Ones who rule” — they’ll get what they once gave. B — is the Battlefield where many men are killed. B — stands for Boss whose blood should be spilled. L — is for the Laborer who toils everyday. Y — is the “Young rebels” who’ll rise and have their say. J. S. of Detroit. COMMENT. What do you say Junior readers? Don’t you think J. S.’s “Junior Wobbly” is very cleverly put? It is really more than clever: To borrow the words of a very young friend of mine, “Nan, ’at ‘felers’ rippin’ good — he is!” Anna Zsamar, Jr. Ed. Bachelor begs for “break” I could only gaze upon the food while the hunger pangs gnawed with unspeakable tenacity. Our friend, they newly deceased taxi driver, then went to another group, this being the lawyers’ department, and much to his chagrin found that they were all fat and in a healthy condition. While he visited the lawyers, dinner was served them and an angel strapped to each arm a spoon similar to that of the taxi drivers. He was left speechless — utterly amazed when he realized that each lawyer dipped his spoon into the food and FED THE MAN SEATED NEXT TO HIM. Returning to the taxi-drivers group he asked an old friend why they didn’t follow the tactics of the lawyers — to which he replied, “What, I’m starving and I should feed that dirty crook next to me?” “MORAL: Co-operate or Starve.” A. Zsamar. BurnesideJIl. A controversy has been going on in the People’s Section of various newspapers in which some narrow minded married men write letters against the single men who have jobs. The single men reply, stating their reasons for wanting and needing a job just as well as do the married men. Some of them write that their fathers or mothers are unemployed and they are more than willing to go to work to help their family from being placed on the charity lists. One young single man complains that married men are given preference on the CWA projects. He ends his letter with the supplication, “How about a break?’ The young man evidently doesn’t seem to realize that capitalism doesn’t work that way. He doesn’t seem to know that there is no sentiment in business. Capitalism is no respecter of human rights. Capitalism is a system in which people produce goods not because they are needed but because a few men will make profits from their sale. Therefore, when profits cannot be made, men get laid-off from industry. It makes no particular difference to the capitalist who gets laid-off — married men or single men. It would be quite interesting to know what these married and single men have done or are doing to help organize the workers to bring about a new social order in which unemployment will no longer exist. Surely if they were radical workers they wouldn’t envy each other for the sacred “job.” It is, of course, necessary for men to eat, dress and house themselves regardless of whether they are single men or married men. It would be more manly, however, to help to organize the working class to fight for shorter hours in order to put themselves back to work than to appeal in supplicating tones for a “break.” John Feczko, Jr. ■ !■ tl; ii NOTE: John has given, I think, everyone a “gentle prod:” more than that — he has provided us with “food for thought.” The following tale (while only a tale) is somewhat like the above case of “bachelors’ ‘married men.” It shows that it does not pay to indulge in petty jealousies. Co-operate or starve A taxi-driver died and went to Heaven (believe it or not.) Upon being admitted by St. Peter he asked to see his old competitors. St. Peter explained that the people were grouped according to ther line of business they had been in when walking on the Earth; therefore, it would be a comparatively simple matter to locate his fellow taxi-drivers. He had a very vague idea about what they might look like but upon seeing them, he was astonished to find that they were painfully thin; one could, in fact, almost see through them. Just at that juncture, dinner was being served, and to his surprise platters of delicious food were placed before them and when his former associates prepared to dine an angel came along and strapped a long iron spoon on each man’s arm. This spoon was fastened to the wrist and biceps, making it impossible to bend the arm. Ezen az estélyen kitudódott, hogy még vannak az IWW-nak lelkes hívei. Sőt az események a közel jövőben igazolni fogják, hogy az a pár lelkes munkás, aki tagja a csoportnak, igazi ipari forradalmár. Mert tudnak cselekedni, áldozni az IWW-ért és lapunkért a Bérmunkásért. Csory munkástárs öreg IWW- ista felkéri a megjelenteket, hogy tekintettel arra, mivel mink ha mulatságot is hirdetünk szükségét látjuk, hogy gondolkozzunk is a mái helyzeten. Azért legyenek szívesek meghallgatni Wiener munkástársat, aki röviden ismertetni fogja a “Bérmunkás” lapunk helyzetét és az IWW hivatását. Wiener munkástárs mondott egy rövid beszédet. Ismertette lapunk, valamint az IWW szerepét a mai társadalmi helyzetben. Párhuzamot vont a világ eseményekkel. Ismertette a német és ausztriai munkások helyzetét. Felhívta a megjelenteket az IWW ipari szervezet építésére. Meg kell említeni, hogy Wiener munkástárs kivételes hatásos beszédet mondott el 20 perc alatt, talán azért, hogy maga előtt látta az uj és a régi harcosokat. Az estély úgy anyagi mint erkölcsileg sikeres volt. Szép számban jelentek meg a chicagói munkástársak is. Úgyszintén a két fiatal Feczkó, akik éppen Duluthból az IWW Collégéből voltak átutazóban. Az Egyetemes Központ titkára Wagner József mtárs is jelen volt, akarta látni, hogy szórakoznak a magyarok. A “Bérmunkásnak” be- küldtünk 25 dollárt. Tudósitó. Ismét befejeződött egy sztrájk a munkások megkérdezése nélkül (Folyt, az 1-ső aldalról.) pékén 150.000 fém munkás a legnagyobb mérvű elégedetlenség jelét tanúsítja azon végzéssel szemben, melyet a union vezérek, a munkáltatók megbízottai és a kormány emberei hoztak az autó ipar munkásainak ügyében. A Motor Products Corporation telepén a sztrájk már folyamatban van, amennyiben a munkáltatók nem váltották be Ígéretüket a bér javítást illetőleg, valamint a férfiakat az olcsóbb nő munkásokkal helyettesítik. A sztrájkolok követelése : a tanult szakmunkások részére $1.10 órabér, a produktív munkákon alkalmazott és bizonyos szaktudást igénylő munkásoknak 90 cent és az átlagos szakmanélküli munkásoknak 75 cent. A jelenlegi bérek a fenti sorrendben 50c. és egy dollár, 45 és 75 es 40 és 45c., között váltakoznak. A női munkások közül sokan 30 cent órabérért húzzák az igát. A sztrájk kitörését elősegítette azon tény, hogy az electro plating departmentben a munkások bérét 88 centről 82- re vágták le. A szerszám készítők sztrájkjának kitörése ismét veszéllyel fenyegeti az autó gyárosok profitját. Ez utóbiak követelése 20%-ék bér javítás és heti 36 órai munkaidő. Mindezen események azt bizonyítják, hogy a munkások nélkül, az ipari telepektől távol, a vezérek által kötött egyezségek már nem jelentenek biztosítékot a gyárosoknak a profit zavartalan élvezetére. A munkások már megszűnnek engedelmes bárányok lenni és nem hajlandók mindent el emészteni, amit az áruló vezérek eléjük raknak. A saját ügyük intézéséhez beleszólást követelnek, mert a múltak tapasztalatai számos példával bizonyítják, hogy ha a munkások a bérek vagy viszonyok javítását akarják, akkor szervezett erejükkel érhetik azt el, nem pedig rábízni a feltolakodott vezérekre. Az IWW tanításának megértése, nagy előnyt jelenthet az autó ipari munkásoknak, mely szerint: EGY az ellenség, EGY legyen a szervezet is, az EGY NAGY SZERVEZET. NEW YORK BRONXI részében IWW gyűlés van a hónap első és harmadik szerda estéjén 8 órakor, a hónap második és negyedik szerdáján open forum.
