Junior Column A LETTER Az IWW magyar tagjai és a Bérmunkás olvasói ezidei Országos Értekezletüket Cleveland, O.-ban, 1933 SZEPTEMBER Hó 3-án, vasárnap tart­ják meg. Az iprai központokból nap-nap után kapjuk nemcsak azon értesítéseket, hogy a dolgozók a munkaviszonyokkal elégedetle­nek, hanem azt a kívánalmakat is, hogy a munkások megelégelve a szakszervezetek árulásait és a politikusok bolonditásait, azt kí­vánják, hogy az IWW álljon melléjük helyzetük megjavítása tö­rekvésükben. Hogy a magyar nyelvű IWW-isták miként kapcsolódhatunk bele minél sikeresebben ebbe az Egy Nagy Szervezetet építő mun­kába, az első feladata az Országos Értekezlet tanácskozásának, valamint a Bérmunkás minél szélesebb alapokra való helyezése. I have just read Irene Zur- za’s article in the “Bérmun­kás.” The only trouble is that those who read the “Bérmun­kás” or the “Industrial Work­er” or any other radical paper know all about these things. When we try to go among the masses, those who still have a job and probably a few dollars in the bank, do not feel this condition and will only mock you and call you a “lousy red” who is only trying to cause disturbances. Others who are poor and live in misery" will not always listen to you be­cause they have troubles of their own. The churches influence many workers who are told to be­ware of the so-called “reds” and these poor ignorant work­ers don’t know what to do or where to turn for help; they go to the churches because it There is a note of discourag­ement in Irene’s letter. _ No doubt many class-conscious workers in radical organiza­tions have felt discouraged at the apathetic throng. , It must be understood that most people are conservative- minded, that is, they will end­ure many abuses until things become so intolerable that nothing will hold them back from changing the system that produces those evils. To­day we must fight for Indust­rial Freedom. The torch-bearers must not become discouraged. Capitalism today is in a pretty tough hole. It is finding it rather difficult to climb out. Through the National Indust­rial Recovery Act it is hoped, (by the capitalists) that capi­talism will get on its legs for a little while longer. It is often said now that it’s “sink or swim with Roosevelt” and that can mean nothing more than capitalism is finished of Roose­velt’s New Deal will not work. This is the time to agitate, to educate the workers to the necessity of organizing into Revolutionary Industrial Uni­ons, through which we can take over the operation of in­dustry and run it for the well- fare of all, for use, not profit. Elhitették velük, hogy nem szükséges a szervezkedés, hogy a szavazó urnáknál, avagy az utcai tüntetésekkel meglehet oldani a mai rettenetes állapo­tokat.
