1933 március 11. BÉRMUNKÁS 7 oldal WAR — WHY? HOW CAN IT BE ABOLISHED? The following news item is I taken from the Bridgeport j Post in a section called the National Whirligig, written by Paul Mallon. We quote: “There will be a real war shortly in the Far East. What you have seen so far is unofficial child’s play to what appears to be officially coming. At least that is the confidential information our topmost officials have received from their diplomatic eyes in the Orient. It has led them to be more apprehensive than they care to admit. “A declaration of war by Japan on China is supposed to be the next step following Japanese withdrawal from the League of Nations. That will mean Russia can hardly stay out. “Such a declaration has been avoided thus far because of the restraining influence of the League of Nations. All the fighting has come under the head of good clean fun. That has handicapped the Japanese. It has kept from blockading the Chinese ports. “The Chinese open door could be shut tight in event of an ifficial declaration of war. China could be readily subdued by being cut off from her sea source of munitions. Her commerce would be disrupted. “We could complain but that is about all.” Thus we see that the situation in the Far East is becoming blacker and blacker. Already ' thousands of Chinese and Japanese soldiers and civilians have been sacrificed on the altar of profits, for that is the real reason why wars are fought. The world war was proof of that. She also needs markets for the surplus products produced by the Japanese wage slaves. What better program could be devised than to annex Manchuria, (a very rich territory) and capture the Manchurian markets thereby disposing of much of her surplus products. Japan, just like all other developed capitalistic countries is hard hit by the industrial depression. When she could not get rid of her commodities in the world market she ■ was compelled to iay-off the workers in her industries. This caused discontent at home because with no work there was no money with which to buy back the necessities of life. After the workers rebelled against the employers for taking away their means of livelihood something had to be done to divert the discontentment of the people into an other and more safer channel. That something is war. It has been a success to some extent, however there are militant workers in Japan too and they are doing everything in their power to show the workers they folly of war, its causes and how it can be abolished. From news reports it does seem that the War Lords of Japan are going to have their innings first. They intend to capture the Jehol area where they are now concentrating their troops. The Chinese will resist and it is to be expected that there will be more bloodshed than there has been in their preliminary battles. Japan, because of superior equipment for murder, will probably come out on top. But what will it mean to the workers? More prosperity? More happiness ? Oh, no! It will mean the spilling of more blood and regardless of what side wins, the workers, as usual, will lose. The Japanese-Chinese war is offering profits to the munitions manufacturers of various countries and they are making the most of , it. If these nations would not ship guns, bombs and other instruments of warfare to the belligerent nations the war could not last long, but the capitalists cannot resist the temptation to cash in on this conflict. “Business is business,” you know. I tis important to remember that wars are fought for profits. We live in a profit system known as capitalism. Gyárosok jönnek össze és megszabják az áruk árait a kereset és kínálat törvényére való tekintet nélkül. Meg van a munkásoknak is hasonlóan a joguk arra, hogy összejöjjenek és együttesen működjenek? A gazdagok a bankokban, klubbokban és szalonokban jönnek össze tanácskozásaikra. A munkásoknak, ha összejönnek, az utcán van a helyük. A társadalom minden szervezett ereje ellenük van. A tőke rendelkezik a hadsereggel a tengerészettel, a törvényhozói és büntetőszervekkel. Ha a gazdagok jönnek össze, eszmecserének nevezik. A szegények összejöveteleit összeesküvésnek nevezik. Ha együttesen cselekszenek, ha valóban tesznek valamit, akkor csőcselék a nevük. Ha védelmezik magukat, akkor árulást követnek el. Hogy van az, hogy a gazdagok irányítják a kormány ügyosztályait? Ezen országban “egyformán” vannak elosztva az emberek közötti jogok. Már pedig több szegény van, mint gazdag. Akkor miért irányítson a gazdag? Miért nem szövetkeznek a munkások, hogy ők legyenek a tényleges irányítói mindennek? Meg fogják tanulni valaha, hogy milyen hatalmasak? Minden országban van egy megelégedett oszály —- megelége- detebb, semhogy valamivel törődjön. A megelégedett osztály nem kérdez semmit és nem felel semmiért. Úgy gondolják, hogy a föld olyan, mint amilyennek kell lenni. Mi, mindazok, akik változtatni akarnak azon, egyszerű békebontók. Ha lassan beszélnek, nem kell figyelni rájuk, — ha hangosan beszélnek, el kell nyomni őket. Ma és mindenkori maradandó igazság az, hogy azok gondolkozate profits. Well, how can we abolish wars ? Why abolish capitalism! If a person is sick the doctor is called. He diagnoses the symptoms. He finds the cause, treats it and the effects gradually disappear. Now one of the effects on the evil tree of. capitalism is war. Therefore, end capitalism and you end wars. The way to do it iss to organize into revolutionary Industrial Unions as advocated by the IWW for the past 27 years. When enough workers are lined-up we can declare a General Strike, lock out the capitalists and carry on production for use instead of profits. Then there will no longer by any capitalists looking for world markets in which to sell the surplus products produced by labor. Ha a szükölködőkre gondolunk, valóságos szívtelenségnek tűnik fel jólakni. Szégyelnünk kell ha rongyokba burkolt nyomorultakkal találkoznunk, ha jól fel vagyunk öltözve. Azt kell éreznünk, hogy a szivünk olyan hideg, mint azoknak a rongyokban didergő testük.
