of all the other rooms in the northern wing of the building and that of the roof insulation in the second phase. In the years 1993 and 1994 the No. I major laboratory of the Vehicle Engineering Institution was remodelled during a complete architectural reconstruction to furnish a gallery, soundproof cabins and a new crane track. In 1993 the reconstruction plans of the new large laboratory and its associated rooms of the MG were ready. This project affecting appr. 500 m2 involved the replacement of the facework and windows in the engine laboratory and the furnishing of a 104 steel-structure gallery on the side of the hall facing the tower. The latterwas modernized in 2009 forthe purposes of the Department of Machine and Product Design and divided into two parts with a fitted light-weight partition. In 2002 designs were made to reconstruct the roof of the building. Besides the modernisation of the structure, the chimneys and lightning protection, plans now covered the complete replacement of the shell as well as the restoration of the original glazed tiles of the roof. As all this remained in blueprint, in 2012 the reconstruction and structural restoration of the roofing was back on the agenda, along with the modernisation of the thermal insulation of the cover panels, the deck-roof and the parapet wall of the tower. 17 8 In 2004 every single building of the university was surveyed once again including their condition. Two of the four independent cellars were used by the Department of Building Materials and Engineering Geology, one of them by the Department of Machinery Parts as a store (beneath the former mill). The one beneath the tower functioned as a caloric centre. The ground floor and the first floor were shared between five departments: AZ ÉSZAKI SZÁRNY A ..
