55 INTRODUCTION: fhe Center of Planning and ArehitecturaLStudies (CPAS) is considered to be a pioneer institution in the Arab world, in the various activities it incorporates. The Center performs on two parallel lines; the first is the architectural and planning consultancy services, the second is training, researches, higher education, writing and publication. The prime objective of the Center is the revival of the deep-rooted Islamic values in contemporary Arab architecture, in addition to polarization and establishment of advanced technology, and its utilization in the projects of urban development. The Center incorporates an excellent group of specialists and Arab consultants who have a wide international experience. It occupies a self-contained building composed of six floors at Heliopolis suburb. The building provides enough space for working, teaching, residence, tele-communications, and modern printing machines. The Center is a simple partnership run by a Board of Directors from its own employees, through a comprehensive executive chart. This booklet explains the objectives of the Center, its composition, and administrative structure. Thjs is in addition to the services it can undertake. The Center would appreciate all sorts of co-operation with different agencies, persons, Arab and international associations, and all those working in the fields of development and urbanization. 3
