TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY BUDAPEST The Technical University Budapest is the biggest institution in higher education in Hungary. At its six faculties,thirteen institutes and sixty-two departments, L700 teachers direct studies of over 10.000 students including 700 foreign citizens. Institutum Geometrico-Hydrotechnicum, predecessor of this University was established by King Joseph II in 1782. In 1871 it ranked as university under the name Hungárián Royal Joseph Technical University and was granted the right to confer engineering degrees bound to final examinations. 1901 the Technical University was granted the right to confer doctor's degrees. This institution of university standing originally included five sections. The rapid development of engineering urged flexibility of trends in university education. Now, there are six faculties at the Technical University, Budapest: Over 160 of its professors have been members of the Hungárián Academy of Sciences and outstanding personalities of soientific life in Hungary and abroad.
