their work, as well. Between 1929-1941 the Club operated a college of music and in the frame of that a musical play school for kindergarteners was maintained. At the end of 1926 its string quartet was established and a little bit later its string quintet, too, but by the end of 1930 it had a chamber orchestra, as well. OUR TOWNS AND THE MUSICAU REGISTER OF 1928 On the initiative of the Ministry of Education a national survey started in Hungary in 1928. The musical questionnaires containing almost 400 questions can be found in the archives of every bigger town of the country. The partly full-particulars or short-spoken answers for the questions show an interesting picture about the musical life and cultural circumstances of the villages, about the connection of the local society and the arts and last but not least about the education supporting activity of the towns. In spite of the gaps, the questionnaires are quite abounding in data and ensure a view of other cultural areas in close connection with the music. They can be a great help not only for regional or education history researchers but are also suitable for making comparative investigations. In the treatise, the questions of the musical registers and the answers given by Baja were published. The program’s realization and success is owing to Lajos Madarász leader of the Tourist Office of Baja. The competition symbolizes the political efforts of the Horthy-government, as well, by using the civilization as a strategy to help to reestablish the historical Hungary’s unity. 424
