The Budapest conference of delegates of the Patriotic People’s Front wishes to express its esteem for those public-spirited citizens, organizations and institutions whose suggestions initiated the “Together for Budapest” movement. This love for their city, this desire for positive action, has already manifested itself in various forms. There are those who wish to establish centenary and memorial parks and playgrounds. Others have offered to work for the advancement of schools, kindergartens and nurseries. Cleaner streets and squares and an aesthetically satisfying and healthy surrounding, trees and flowers, are a genuine mass requirement, as has been demonstrated. Interest is also growing in the collection of local historical remains and their exhibition; and in general, a better acquaintance with the past, present and future of the city. We believe that there is no need for any special centralization of these activities. The well-known originality and self-reliance of the people of Budapest will answer the need. The people of this city have already proved their love for their home city with heavy sacrifices made in difficult hours. Now there is a festival of joy. And in honour of the centenary everyone is called on to do everything worthy of the occasion that can be done by him or her in their own way, in their own territory, according to their own resources. Let us make sure that the order, cleanliness, outward appearance and life of this city reflect this festive occasion. Let us do it, in homage to our forefathers and as an example to posterity. The past of our city, our achievements in the last twenty-five years and the tasks of the future stimulate and urge us on and demand even more successful work from all of us. We appeal to all citizens to heed our call on the occasion of this festive anniversary and join our movement: TOGETHER FOR BUDAPEST.
