pearing tending to dissociate from the Hungarian nation many of our citizens who have been considered fully Magyarized and who have risen to high positions. We therefore protest with all the power of our conscience, and are confident that our words will not be ineffective in a country which owes all its glory to its heroic struggle for freedom of worship, freedom of thought, and the fullness of human rights. Moved by this inner compulsion we turn to both houses of the Hungarian legislative body, to the Christian churches, to the professional chambers and economic branches, to the trade unions and other organizations for the protection of professional interests, to political, social and cultural associations, to the sound and patriotic people of the country as a whole and appeal to them: give proof of their self-respect, courage and unselfishness and speak out against this bill which is an insult to all of us. We beg all our contemporaries to consider the grave responsibility they would have to shoulder if, against their protest of conscience, a law would be passed which every Hungarian must some day recall with shame.
