tion for us. And all who want peace should therefore support the World Peace Conference to be held on the 4th, 5th and 6th of September. Organize peace committees, elect delegates who will proclaim on behalf of all the workers and employees at the World Peace Conference that we are against war! It is fascism that wants war, that wants to attack the Soviet Union, which is building socialism. Let us fight against the war in order to defend ourselves and the Soviet fatherland! The continuous fight for peace means the fight against fascism! Workers! Employees! The fascist state of the capitalists persecutes without mercy the communists, the leaders of the fight against fascism, and all who are putting up a powerful fight for a larger slice of bread, for the liberties of the people. They send them off to the military prison on false, trumped-up charges. Not only those whom they accuse of being communists, but even the militant members of trade unions. This is the way that the fascist state power tries to prevent trade union recruitment, and the strengthening of the workers’ organization, the way it tries to make the trade unions fascist and to prepare for war. Protest at every meeting against the arrest of militant workers, demand at every meeting the release of those arrested, of the people unlawfully carried off to military imprisonment. Let us unite in fighting re-armament, and for a larger slice of bread! Let us fight in the People’s Front in favour of peace, and against the war policy of the fascist Gömbös Government. Let us fight in defence of our trade unions, and for their greater strength. Let us protest at every meeting, at every gathering, against the war, let us demonstrate for peace. In order to prevent the imperialist war of the fascists, preparing for another world-wide massacre. Down with the fascist war-mongers! Down with the fascist Gömbös Government, preparing for war! Long live peace! Up with the Soviet Union! Long live the united action of all fighting against the war! Up with the anti-fascist People’s Front! With revolutionary greetings the Budapest Party Committee of the Hungarian Party of Communists Dokumentumok a magyar forradalmi munkásmozgalom történetéből [Documents on the History of the Hungarian Revolutionary Labour Movement, 1935-1945], Budapest, 1964, pp. 65-66. 113
