the results of different document protection carried out there. In connection with the restoring shop a paper supplementing machine deserves a special mention for this is the very first one in operation in Hungary. In the course of the contributions and the debate Mr. Iván Borsa put a question to Gábor Vámos on the capacity at the public health institutions to be used for disinfection, while Mr. Lajos Körmendy was curious about the utilization of Gamma rays with document disinfection. According to the reply due to the narrow disinfecting capacity at the health institutes it would be purposeful for the archives to find disinfection possibilities in the food industry. For the time being Gamma rays are used for curative purposes in Hungary and in his view mainly the gas process is suitable for document disinfection. There was a debate between Mr. Lajos Körmendy and Mr. Jenő Fehérvári on the usability of a metal box plus gas patroned film storage system. During the experiments it became evident that from the viewpoint of safety of large quantities of film making and film storing the application of a climate regulating set is more favourable. On the Xerox processes Mrs. Ilona Pintér and Mr. Iván Borsa exchanged views, pointing out that this method can merely be used for research, displays and copying. Mr. Imre Kalmár-Nagy reviewed in connection with publications issued at the Budapest City Public Record Office the economical offset-plate process elaborated by himself. Mr. Árpád Zsigmondy raised the question about the inferior quality of document materials of modern times and wondered whether it would be possible for the archives to receive copies of documents on a better quality of paper. Mr. Iván Borsa said that experiments to this end have been going on for almost 100 years - without any result yet. There was a debate among Mrs. D. Varga, Mr. Gábor Vámos and Mr. József Szekeres on the question whether during etilenoxid disinfecting process the document material undergoes a possible harmful change. According to chief engineer Vámos preliminary experiments are needed to find a technology to be practised however his institute does not claim itself responsible if it is so. There have been negative experiences so far, chiefly with document disinfection of not paper material. Mr. József Szekeres said that so far no harmful changes could be observed with disinfected 19th and 20eth century documents, books and drafts of a paper material at the Budapest Public Record Office. Before the disinfection work of a 9,000 running meters of materials, the Budapest Public Record Office -due to the objections raised by the National Archives— will have instrumental controls made by the Paper Industrial Research Institute.
