Barsi János (szerk.): Magyarország történeti helységnévtára. Borsod megye 1773-1808 (Budapest - Miskolc, 1991)
Summary
12. Serial numbe r: This is the repetition of column 1. Notes (Jegyzetek): Tn the course of the compilation of the gazetteer interesting reflections or useful completions are often necessary; sometimes the method of treating the data requires some further explanations, or errors experienced in one cr another source require notes. These remarks and commenta can be found in the Notes arranged according to the order of occurrence in the gazetteer and marked with the serial number. The cross in brackets (+) after a derived form of a name calls the attention to a note referring to it. Index of place names (Helynévmutató): It helps to locate the names used in the data collection and in the Notes. All forme of names are listed here if the differences of spelling also mark differences in pronunciations. These name variations refer to the derived names, where the legal status may be found, too, as well as the serial number of the item, and - for the sake of avoiding repeated turning over the pages - also the mark of the grid number is given here. The Index of place names alEO informs about the present names of the communities and - if any changes happened - about the name of the county to which it belongs now. This Index includes also the names of settlements which now belong to the county given in the title of the volume, and indicate which ccunty-manual will include their data concerning the end of the 18th century. Index of religious d e nominations (Felekezeti mutató): The possibility to look up the settlements inhabited by Roman Catholics (római katolikus), Greek Orthodox (görögkeleti), Calvinists (református), Lutherans (evangélikus) and Israelites (izraelita) is rendered by the Indices of the individual denominations, where also the legal status, serial number and grid number of the settlement are given. However, the structure of these indices varies according to what importance the data of the church administration have, and to the peculiarities of each source. In the case of the Roman Catholic Church which has the best structure of administration, the purpose of the Index is to give a clear insight into church administration and affiliation system. Affiliations belonging to episcopacies are listed also by dioceses in the alphabetical order of the mother churches (mater), the legal status (2), the serial number (3), grid number (4); and beyond that the number of Roman Catholic persons (5), as well as the distance - measured in hours - from the mother church (6) are also added. The Calvlnist Church (református) was organized in a less firm structure, and the available sources do raise much more problems of source-criticism. This Index is of great help in solving these, as it gives a comprehensive list of data of various conscriptions on Calvinist parishioners in each church district in the alphabetical order of the settlements. Thus it makes a better estimation of the contemporary number of parishioners in the settlements missing from certain parish conscriptions. Checking up data in the manual and on the map is ensured by the legal status (2), serial number (3) and grid number (4) given in this Index. There are no late 18th century conscriptions of settlements which might provide information about the number of the Lutheran parishioners. Therefore the data in this index contains references of later periods and can serve as the basis of estimation. Checking up data in the manual and on the map is ensured by the legal status (2), serial number (3) and grid number (4) given in this Index. The Index of the owners (Birtokosmutató) is destined to help the work of researchers dealing with estate history by giving an alphabetical list of the owners.
