SUMMARY IN ENGLISH Krisztián Bene The Transdanubian Members of the French Army in the Great War Despite the fact that France and, within the scope of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy as a co-state, the Kingdom of Hungary were at war with and even clashed with one another on several occasions on various battlefields, strange as it might sound, even Hungarian citizens served in the French army during the conflict. At its centenary the Great War has come into the foreground of interest in most of the countries that were participating. This holds especially true of France which earned a victory thus the huge amount of work of the colleagues in French public collections invested in collecting and digitalizing data has resulted in the structuring and publishing of a lot of pieces of information which, among others, facilitates a better understanding of the soldiers serving in the French army. A couple of years ago the first step made was the publication of the data of those who died a hero's death. This enabled us, next to the discussion of general aspects, to treat on the pages of a publication of the Baranya County Archives of the National Archives of Hungary the soldiers in the French army who were born in the county of Baranya and were killed in battle. Since then, happily enough, the data of the soldiers who survived the combats have been made accessible, too. This, next to becoming acquainted with the Hungarian-born contingent that served in the French armed forces, made it possible for us to reconstruct the lives of the soldiers bom in southern Transdanubia, too. Therefore, in our study we make an attempt to use the databases formed from the data of French archives and thereby picture the southern Transdanubian soldiers serving in the French troops by resorting to prosopographic methods. Also, depending on sources, we intend to present certain lives in detail to the scholarly and wider public alike.
