András Rozs: Distortions in the Election Process of Ministers in the Presbytery of the Calvinist Reformed Congregation of Pécs in the 1950s and 1960s By making primary use of the decisions contained in the records of the presbytery the study concentrates on the practice of the election of ministers in the presbytery of the Pécs congregation. The minister Pál Nyáry did not intend to enter into conflict with the representatives of the more and more dominant leftist forces. In 1952, adjusting himself to the policy of the party state the bishop of the Church District Along the River Danube sent him to forced retirement. The Pécs presbytery was divided on the matter but the majority accepted the higher will. Bishop István Szamosközi conceived of the acceptance of the targets of the Socialist state as the directive force for the members of the Pécs congregation. In 1956 László Szabó was elected by the elders. The congregation was satisfied with the way he acted in his office, yet in 1964 the bishop had him removed from Pécs. The change in ministers was part of the church policy of the Kádár regime, the autonomy of the presbytery was infringed on a number of occasions. Der Pastor Pál Nyáry wollte keine Auseinandersetzung mit den Vertretern der immer stärker gewordenen linken politischen Kräfte. Der Bischof der Reformierten Diözese an der Donau hat ihn 1952 in Zwangspension geschickt. Bischof István Szamosközi hat die Annahme der Ziele des sozialistischen Parteistaates für die Mitglieder der Pécser Kirchengemeinde als maßgebend betrachtet. 1956 wurde an Stelle des nach Budapest gezogenen alten Pastors vom Presbyterium László Szabó gewählt. Er hat sein Amt zur Befriedigung der Gemeinde bekleidet, doch wurde er im Jahre 1964 vom Bischof von Pécs entfernt. Der Wechsel der Pastoren war ein Bestandteil der Kirchenpolitik der Kádár-Ara, das Selbstbestimmungsrecht des Presbyteriums wurde mehrmals beeinträchtigt. 387
