On the Border of Two Periods. Persian Art in the Qajar Era (1796-1925), exhibition interiors the Persian culture in the Moslem age pre­served in the Oriental Collection of the Li­brary of the Hungarian Academy of Sci­ences. Iván Szántó wrote several articles for the volume. In The Demise of Persian Book Painting, he discusses the emptying of the tradition of the miniature, the classical gen­re of Persian traditional book illumination and its interactions with European art. His New Possibilities of Visual Representation elaborates the transformation of the artistic approach, printed books replacing manu­scripts, graphic works and photos replacing the illumination, portraits and landscapes taking the place of miniatures. In his Lac­querware and Related Genres Iván Szántó introduces lacquer painting that could be seen as the only true successor to miniature painting. In To Take Photos in Persian Károly Kineses sums up the work of pho­tographers living in Persia and Iranian pho­tographers in the 19th century, with special regard to the most outstanding figure of Persian photography, the ruler.
