Purchased from Zsuzsa Kövesdy, 2001 Inv. nos.: 2001.213.1; 2001.214.1 Emese Pásztor Ladies' evening gown © Hungarian (?), 1925 This is a straight-cut dress made from black silk georgette; it has a gathered neckline and embroidery on the chest. From the shoulders to the waist-part it is densely sewn with red glassbeads; from the waist to the lower part these beads are sewn in rows 15 apart. The sleeves have since been altered. th century Height: 27.8 cm Inv. No.: 2001.70.1 Purchased from Gyula Stofa The arms of the richly bejewelled female figure are broken off at the shoulders and its legs are broken off at the knees. Even so, the gentle curves of the torso indicate the piece's original tribhanga posture. This work may be a depiction of a celestial beauty or dancer, a type of sculpture common on the outer walls of temples in Northern India.
