Szilágyi András (szerk.): Ars Decorativa 18. (Budapest, 1999)
New acquisitions 1998
After earlier studying as a sculptor, Mátyás Pataki was awarded a diploma at the Hungarian University of Craft and Design's Department of Goldsmith's Art in 1998. It was then that he completed his series of silver rings supplied with moving parts embellished with carved and chased stones (which were connected with his diploma work), some of which he had made earlier. One, which featured in a 1996 "Studio Corner" exhibition entitled "Jewellery", was purchased by the Museum of Applied Arts at that time. The pieces in the series although inspired by different stylistic periods - fir in with each other organically. All are well characterized by the young artist's scupltor's way of seeing, as well as by inventive fashioning and high-standard execution.
