No.: 97.107.1 Ferenc Batári DEPARTMENT OF METALWORK Brooch: "Wild rose" Vidor Tafner, Székesfehérvár, 1920s Silver, cloisonné enamel Diameter: 5 cm Vidor Tafner (1881-1966), a jeweller, took the stylized ornamentation of this open­work, circular brooch from the stock of mo­tifs associated with Late, so-called Hunga­rian, Historicism; in its composition, on the other hand, it already reflects the influence of Art Deco. It is harmonious, balanced and strives for symmetry. The five little red enamelled hearts around the edge are each embellished with two dark-green leaves. The central motif of a section of the same shape is a flower with a yellow middle and red petals, in a symmetrical openwork frame formed from curving tendrils. On each of the outlines of the intervals between the petals and of the hearts along the edge is light­green enamel ornamentation. On the reverse side is a screwed-on pin and a hook, for fas­tening.
